The Road to resolution of one of the toughest modern time mathematical problems by Michael Lacey

Michael Lacey is an America mathematician who was born in 1959. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1987. His thesis is what catapulted him into the limelight in the solution of mathematical problems. Michael Lacey was researching on the area of probability in Banach Spaces and was able to solve a problem in the law of iterated logarithm for empirical and characteristic functions. He has also been working on harmonics analysis, probability and the ergodic theory.

There was a time when he worked at the Indiana State University. During this time, he was able to receive the Natural Science Foundation’s post-doctoral fellowship. Since 1996, he has been a mathematics professor at the Georgia State University. Some of the awards that he has received during his tenure include the Salem Prize for solving a conjecture by Alberto Calderon. He was also awarded a Guggenheim scholarship and in 2012, he became a fellow for the American mathematical society.

Michael Lacey joined the Georgia faculty in 1996. He has been taking part in a number of projects and most of them have gained a lot of recognition. In addition to his research, he has been in charge of training grants that have supported a lot of students both in the undergraduate and postgraduate level. Michael Lacey Ph.D. students have stated that it has been a relatively easy task for them to get industry related jobs, and he has also mentored close to a dozen post-doctoral candidates.

His interest has always been pure mathematics, also there are some activities and interest like probability and harmonic analysis, which are a bit out of his scope. Michael has the knowledge and skills to mentor postgraduate students with interest in pure mathematics. He mentors both doctoral and pre-doctoral students.

Michael Lacey has always believed in working hard at something anything that needs his attention.

Michael Lacey aims to transform the world of mathematics in two ways. The first is doing research and solving problems that have been a headache to most of his clients. In addition to this, he believes in mentoring and supporting other students that want to further their knowledge in pure mathematics. He has spent his entire lifetime expanding and sharing knowledge in pure mathematics and with time, he believes that this will translate into a legacy. When he is not working, Michael relaxes at home with his family.
